Heroine of the Week: Sydney Smoot, Age 9

I posted the following video on Facebook yesterday but I couldn't not post it here as well because YES YES YES! RAIN ON, MISS SYDNEY SMOOT! REIGN ON!

I showed this video to Archer and Fable after school and they were blown away that a girl so young could speak with such confidence in front of a school board of adults. We discussed the importance of speaking up REGARDLESS of age. That every person carries within them a mighty voice and a capacity to make great change. Even the youngest somebodies. (Go, youngest somebodies!)

When asked if she was nervous before her speech, 4th grader Sydney Smoot had this to say: 

"I was a little nervous before the speech, but when I was called up to the podium, I did not feel nervous because I knew this speech was going to help a lot of people." 

Thank you, Sydney, for inspiring our family! And cheers to Sydney's parents for supporting their daughter to stand up and fight the good fight. High fives all around.
