We took our first sojourn as a family of six this weekend, eight if you include the dogs and it went surprisingly smoothly. We woke up early Thursday morning after packing up the car the night before, fed the babies and then loaded up the van. Two hours later we were at my parents' house where we spent the long weekend. Here are a "few" snaps from our time with family and friends, most notably Reverie and Boheme's first introduction to my childhood stomping grounds and some of our favorite haunts:
painting at Quail Gardens San Diego Botanic Gardens
I grew up in (the garden formally known as) Quail and every time we take the trek home to Encinitas we bring the kids. (If you're ever in Southern California I wholeheartedly recommend it. Better than any Zoo, the gardens overlook the ocean on one side and on the other boast a treehouse that will blow your kids' (and your) mind. It's like a wonderland of wonderfulness.) One of our favorite things to do during the holidays is attend their Garden of Lights with the whole family. If you live locally, GO.
Bo, meeting cousin Zanna for the first time
Reverie with my Nana, her Nana-na.
The babies got to meet some new friends and old family, including one of my childhood besties who is expecting her third son any day now.
The hat was a gift. Pretty insane, right? Insane in a good (insane) way.
This was as close as we came to a family portrait.
Fable looks so old in these pictures it kind of blows my mind. I guess that's what happens when you have a new baby, your old baby suddenly looks... like an old baby.
The drive home was just as shockingly successful as the drive south. We managed to squeeze two adults, four kids, two dogs (one of them, 90 lbs) and 789749283 duffle bags BACK into our minivan, Tetris style. Odyssey, indeed.
Hope you all had a lovely weekend full of food, family and friends. Every day I feel more thankful for this space and all of your wonderful voices. Oh and P.S. Caught Smiling, Reverie edition:
