Because today, for the very first time, Archer didn't cry when I dropped him off at preschool. He didn't frown or hold onto me for dear-life. Instead he let go of my hand when we reached the door and went running away from me, to his classmates.
"Bye, bye," I said, in shock.
Any minute, I thought, he would turn and run back. But he didn't.
"Looks like the tough days are behind you," the school director said, patting my back.
I waved once more. "See you soon!" I said.
"Ba-bye, Mommy!"
Archer flashed me a smile as I slipped out the door.
And when I went to pick him up this afternoon, he was still smiling.

HOORAY FOR ARCHER AND FOR MOMMY!!! love, ecg
I remember that day as well----and then came the day she didn't want to LEAVE day care! "No mommy, I stay here!"
Congrats to both of you! It is a big step!
YAY!!! You made it!
woo-hoo! good times!
Yay, Archer! Way to go!
Oh...you too. ;)
Well done Archer, & well done you!
Gotta love when they turn that corner!!!!
Mom usualy takes a bit longer!!!
BIG SMILE for Archer and Mom :)
Big step, Mom!
LOVE the T-shirt! Child Gone Wild?
Wow. Archer's obviously a big boy now. What are you going to do with all that time on your hands now?
Awesome!! Yay Archer!
That's so awesome!!! He's getting so big.
That's one of those situations that further reinforces that you are, no matter how you feel sometimes, doing the right thing.
And a huge congrats to you both.
Thank you! Thank you! This morning? Same thing. "Bye-bye, Mommy!" Not a single tear shed.
Cause it's pure bliss, that's why...
Isn't that the best feeling! When William did this I was so excited. Congrats to you and Archer.
Awesome! YAYYYY ARCHER!! oh, and cool t-shirt, too.
maybe he met a girl? :)
I know just how you feel. I didn't think that day would ever come and I could only get through the drop offs by telling myself that we were giving it one month to get better. It took about a week.
Now, my daughter barely says goodbye and doesn't want to leave when I come to pick her up. I would have never believed you if you told me that would happen.
I'm so happy for you (and sad, too) I know you understand. It was the third week with my girl. Prepare yourself that Mondays will still sometimes be hard with the transition after weekends or vacations. But overall, the worst is now behind you.
Yay...I'm glad you both prevailed, and that he's enjoying his time. I always love that my son is eager to give me my hug and kiss so he can go play. I wish they could keep that feeling all their lives.
That is easily the smallest Slaughter shirt I have ever seen.
Congrats on the happy school. It is a big day!
Oh, that's so good, mama! Good man, Archer. It's so much easier that way.
yay!!! ~jjlibra
Congrats! Life will get easier!
By the way, love his shirt!
